Artist = Courage
To me, being an artist means having the courage to say what you see, and then letting the world experience it.
The artist puts forth the work, the world then decides how to view, hear, or perceive the art. It can be a scary and vulnerable process, and we don’t always elicit the response we were hoping for. Herein lies the problem with needing courage.
What is your work “saying?” You may or may not even always know, but you are trusting in yourself as the artist and creator that you are in fact, “saying something”.
Henri Matisse famously said, “Creativity takes courage,” and I wholeheartedly agree.
