Color as a Narrative: Telling Stories Through Abstract Art

I honestly believe that color is another form of language and communication. When we look at colors, we can express our feelings that help us make sense of our experience of the world. Like when you walk out onto a freshly cut green lawn, the overwhelming sea of green can make us feel grounded and peaceful. OR when we stand before a vast body of water, the color blue has a massively peaceful effect. Do you ever think about how you feel when you enter a room with a certain paint color? We all experience feelings via color whether we are aware of it or not.

As I was pondering this thought I realized the question we are asked, “What is your favorite color?”, in an way is, “How does this color make you feel?” When I start a new painting, I am usually starting with a color palette. These colors come to me via inspiration, while I’m out on a walk, a photograph I see, a new place I visit, or literally they just pop into my subconscious mind, and I need to explore it!

Color is a powerful tool to help navigate our emotional life. It can also just bring us a tremendous amount of pleasure, through a perspective of beauty. I’d love to know, what IS your favorite color? How do YOU respond when you see this color or colors? How does it make you feel? Comment, send me a DM or email, I would really love to hear from you! But seriously, you are helping this artist do research :)
